Join Cheshire Society of Architects for an exclusive guided tour of the Chester Northgate Phase One Development, followed by refreshments with fellow attendees!
Michael Dunn, the Project Architect from AHR for Chester Northgate, will be leading the tour. The visit will cover the entire Chester Northgate Phase One Development, starting on Northgate Street, under the new Coachworks Arcade.
Tour route
The tour will begin with a walk through the new arcade, highlighting both the refurbished heritage building and the striking new terracotta-clad extension, which draws inspiration from Chester’s Town Hall and surrounding Tudor facades. From the square, Michael will guide us around the exterior of the site, discussing the key elements such as the new combined market and cinema building, featuring a prominent living wall, and the multi-storey car park on St. Martin’s Way, notable for its integrated living cladding panels.
The tour will conclude inside Chester Market, where Michael will provide insights into the interior fit-out and furnishings. Throughout the tour, he will also share the various challenges faced during the project, including adapting inherited design elements, managing significant archaeological constraints, ensuring accessibility, and coordinating with multiple tenants and stakeholders.

The guided tour and refreshments will last approximately two hours - no particular site gear or PPE required. This event is open to all.
