Design Time: Flexi-build (in-person workshop) - October 2022

Join us this half-term for a creative architecture workshop for ages 11-14 years. Explore how architects are increasingly focusing on flexibility and sustainability in their design by adapting existing structures.

About the workshop

Design Time: Flexi-build

Tuesday 25 October 2022, 11am – 4pm

For children aged 11-14.

How can we reuse existing buildings and their materials to create exciting, flexible and sustainable architecture fit for the 21st century?

Join us for a creative architecture workshop to explore how architects are increasingly focusing on flexibility and sustainability in their design by adapting existing structures. Now reusing materials and thinking about how buildings can be repurposed, demolished and recycled in the future is essential. We will explore existing examples of sustainable architecture for inspiration. We will learn how to draw architectural plans and elevations to scale, experiment with collage to develop ideas and design our own building for community use.

This creative architecture workshop for children aged 11 to 14 will be run by artist educator Marianne Holm Hansen.

About the workshop series

Our Design Time (previously Design Day) workshops for ages 11 to 14 take architectural design a step further, by providing context and knowledge of the built environment to spark creativity.

Past workshops have focused on:

  • different architectural styles
  • small and large scale construction methods
  • traditional and digital drawing techniques
  • architectural games
  • using software to design collaboratively in a shared space

All participants must arrive by 11am. These workshops are led by professional educators and all materials are included in the ticket price, but lunch is not provided.

If you're under 18, tickets must be booked by a parent or guardian. Online booking in advance is essential - if we do not receive full registration information in advance of the event, we cannot allow the participant to attend.

Workshop costs

  • £44
  • £33 for participants who qualify for free school lunch (proof required)
