RIBA Friends architecture walking tour: "Don't move - improve" - an old or new concept in architecture?

Join us for a walking tour of Southwark in which the rich architecture of the area will be considered in terms of reusability.

Reusability is currently a buzzword in the world of sustainable architecture. But how new a concept is this?

In this walking tour of Southwark, the rich architecture of the area will be considered in terms of reusability. The area defined in the Doomsday book (1086) as a "haven for criminals and free trade" with a value of £16, Southwark has a long history of occupation which can still be seen in the surviving architecture. Today, it is an area of high density habitation, but how have the current buildings built on the past? We start the tour at Blackfriars Bridge with its 21st century makeover, and will continue along the river to end at London Bridge station which is today a much sought after area for work, living, and pleasure, with a market value to match.

Join award-winning Blue Badge Guide, Paula Cooze for this walking tour.
