In the Mood for Love: Film screening and Q&A

Join us for an outdoor summer screening of the critically acclaimed In the Mood for Love on the rooftop of South London’s Bussey Building.

The RIBA is pleased to be partnering with Rooftop Film Club to host a number of outdoor screenings and Q&As at the Bussey Building in Peckham throughout June to coincide with the London Festival of Architecture.

In The Mood for Love presents a visually evocative tale of love and betrayal set in 1960s Hong Kong. The claustrophobic closeness of the city’s overcrowded apartment blocks frames the increasingly complex and intertwined lives of two Shanghai immigrants - Chow Mo-wan, played by Tony Leung, and Su Li-zhen, played by Maggie Cheung. Director Wong Kar-wai’s nuanced use of the domestic interior, intertwined with a lush colour palette, creates a rich cinematic experience that was the visual reference point for Barry Jenkin’s Oscar-winning Moonlight in 2016.

Before the screening, there will be a short Q&A with RIBA Exhibitions Curator, Pete Collard.

Pete Collard is a contemporary architecture and design curator, writer, and researcher who has worked at several leading museums and institutions in the UK including the Design Museum, the British Council, and the V&A. He has also worked as a producer on a number of architectural film studies, documenting the work of Louis Kahn, Erno Goldfinger, and Richard Neutra among others.

This event is part of a collaborative series of screenings with Rooftop Film Club.
