Introduction to Secured by Design for Architects

Join us for a free CPD session that will introduce the principles of Secured by Design. This session will be delivered by the Police Crime Prevention Academy, and covers RIBA core curriculum topics ‘Health, Safety and Wellbeing’ and ‘Places, Planning and Communities’.

Architects involved in the design of grant funded social housing in Wales will be aware that compliance with Secured by Design has long been a requirement of Welsh Government’s Development Quality Requirements (DQR) for new dwellings (and existing dwellings for physical security). New quality standards to be published by Welsh Government later this year will continue to require compliance with Secured by Design and will specify that all housing schemes must be designed to achieve the Secured by Design Gold award, which includes the security of the external environment and the physical security of the home. This session will be delivered by the Police Crime Prevention Academy.

By the end of the session participants will:

  • Understand the aims of Secured by Design
  • Be aware of the steps that need to be taken to engage with the scheme
  • Have an understanding of the schemes success as evidenced by independent academic research
  • Have awareness of the Secured by Design website and the resources available on it
