RIBA Friends architecture walking tour: Steam, Gas and Coal - a walking tour of the regeneration of Kings Cross.

This walk will consider the architectural strategy for Kings Cross and how this has manifested itself in the preservation of some of the statement buildings in the area and how this has impacted local residents.

For over twenty years the area behind Kings Cross station has been the focus of a huge regeneration project.

The area is being transformed with new streets, parks, homes, shops, offices, galleries, bars, restaurants, schools, and even a university.

This walk led by Blue Badge guide Paula Cooze will consider the architectural strategy for Kings Cross and how this has manifested itself in some of the statement buildings. Key to the development is the preservation of the buildings which echo the history of life in Kings Cross in the industrial age. This walk will consider how successfully this has been achieved and at what cost for the local residents.

Meeting at Kings Cross Station forecourt, the walk ends at the back of the station.
