MSA: GEN9 - Beyond the Skyline

Join Manchester Society of Architects for a symposium-style event exploring crucial themes that will define the city’s built environment for generations to come.

This October, join Manchester Society of Architects for Gen9: Beyond The Skyline, a landmark symposium-style event marking 160 years of MSA.

Since its founding in 1865, the Society has shaped Manchester’s built environment through eight generations of innovation, resilience, and design excellence. Now, as we celebrate this milestone, we look to the 9th generation, exploring how architecture can respond to the challenges and opportunities of the next century.

GEN9 will bring together nine speakers, each offering a nine-minute talk on one of nine themes for the future. These themes reflect the urgent issues and bold ambitions that will define Manchester’s architectural landscape for generations to come — from climate resilience and housing to technology, culture, and civic identity.

Expect big ideas, fresh perspectives, and thought-provoking debate as we imagine what lies beyond the skyline. The event will also feature exhibitions, networking opportunities, and a celebratory social to connect Manchester’s architectural community across generations.

  • 5pm – Arrival, exhibition, and networking
  • 5:45pm – Panel 1 (details to be announced)
  • 6:45pm to 7:15pm – Exhibition break
