NYSA Industry updates: Retrofit

Join NYSA to hear Dr Kate Morland of Leeds Sustainability Institute to discuss her research into Retrofitting solid walled homes.

Dr Kate Morland of Leeds Sustainability Institute will discuss her research into retrofitting solid walled dwellings and what we can learn from it.

In this session, key findings from the recently published Demonstration of Energy Efficiency Potential (DEEP) project will be presented and discussed. The £3 million DEEP project was commissioned by the government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in 2020. Investigating the retrofit of solid-walled homes, it is one of the largest research studies of its kind to have ever been attempted in the UK.

This work was carried out by researchers at the Leeds Sustainability Institute, a research unit within Leeds Beckett University. The research measured how much the energy efficiency of 14 case study homes was improved by adding insulation and compared this with the predictions made by the homes' EPCs. It was also the first time that research has compared the impact of taking a whole house approach to insulation measures to the cumulative impact of piecemeal retrofits added over time.

The session will cover effective ways to measure building performance, how EPC predictions differ from what we measure, which retrofits are the most effective for solid-walled homes, and reducing risks when retrofitting.

Each ticket comes with a tea/coffee and cake.

About the speaker
