RIBA Friends architecture walking tour: Post-war city architecture – four dates that changed design

Discover how the City of London has changed since 1945 and how the city’s evolving architectural style has been driven by its changing financial needs and the thinking of the day.

Join Paula Cooze – award winning Blue Badge guide – and discover how the City of London has changed since 1945. Paula will put forward a hypothesis that the City’s evolving architectural style has been driven by its changing financial needs and the thinking of the day. She will suggest four dates which changed design as architecture responded to the financial needs of the City of London.

Winding your way through the City of London you will see brutalist estates to post-modern, high tech, and new skyscrapers of the 21st century. The walk starts at the Barbican seeing the evolution of the brutalist architecture of Chamberlain, Bonn and Powell, then to the various styles of offices ending at the Eastern cluster considering what is to come!
