Protecting Lives: design and construction post Grenfell

Where does the responsibility lie for ensuring our buildings are safe for tenants and other building users? At the RIBA fire safety conference, in collaboration with RICS and CIOB, you will hear experts from across the built environment sector analyse current failings in the design, procurement, construction and maintenance of buildings and provide alternative solutions for industry and regulations.

Develop your regulatory knowledge and hear how the RIBA recommendations for an improved Part B can help to ensure the life safety of building users. Learn how to help address the public’s dwindling confidence in the industry and understand your roles and responsibilities recommended in the new Fire Safety Overlay to the RIBA Plan of Work.

Delegates at the conference will:

  • gain an insight in to the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, and the future of regulations, presented by Review Chair, Dame Judith Hackitt
  • learn from the recent damning report on the Construction of Edinburgh Schools and DG One Dumfries, presented by the inquiry’s Chair, John Cole CBE
  • understand how to improve quality through better procurement and decision making
  • see what economic models for housing development could look like, following raised building regulations standards
