RIBA Book Club: How thought leadership changed the way I practise

Books are at their most powerful when they incite change. Three innovative architects – Angela Dapper, Tomas Millar and Carl Turner – each talk about a thought leadership book that has inspired them to do things differently.

How can innovative ideas from outside the field of architecture inform practice? For the first RIBA Book Club event of 2020, three influential architects – Angela Dapper of Grimshaw, Tomas Millar of Millar + Howard Workshop and Carl Turner of Turner.Works – will be talking about how a particular thought leadership book has moved and inspired them to shift the way they think about and engage with work.

Tomas Millar will be discussing 'Creativity, Inc' by Ed Catmall, founder of Pixar, for its ‘perspective of another industry that is both technical and creative in equal measure’, while well-known architect entrepreneur Carl Turner will be talking about 'The One Thing', highlighting how it changed his studio’s approach to systemisation and focus.

Grimshaw principal and diversity champion, Angela Dapper, will be highlighting 'Women and Power: A Manifesto' by Mary Beard, which tests cultural assumptions about women's relationship with power across history.

As an attendee of this event you will be able to purchase:

  • Ed Catmall - 'Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration'
  • Gary Keller and Jay Papsan - 'The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results'
  • Mary Beard - 'Women and Power: A Manifesto'
