RIBA Members are invited to join a guided walking tour of the award-winning Knights Park in Eddington, Cambridge, led by Michael Mueller of Alison Brooks Architects and Alexis Butterfield of Pollard Thomas Edwards.
Knights Park is a net zero carbon, low-rise, high-density residential development comprising 249 homes designed to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5. As a key element of the University of Cambridge’s 150-hectare Eddington urban extension, it demonstrates how high-quality housing can be delivered sustainably at scale.
This collaborative scheme showcases an innovative urban design integrating:
- Tree-lined avenues, intimate lanes, and pedestrian-focused green streets
- A diverse mix of terraced houses, courtyard homes, and villas
- Three distinctive ‘palazzo’-style apartment buildings marking the neighbourhood threshold
- Home offices and other sustainable living features to support modern lifestyles
The tour will explore how architecture, landscape, and master planning combine to create a vibrant, future-proofed community. Participants will gain valuable insights into delivering sustainable, adaptable homes within a cohesive urban framework. Knights Park also demonstrates how communities can be designed for long-term resilience, encouraging active travel, biodiversity, and a strong sense of place.
