With a recession anticipated in the UK, 2023 is set to be a challenging year for design and construction. What will the direct economic impact be for architects and their practices? What sectors are declining and which are more stable? How can you protect your business by diversifying or minimizing your cost base?

The RIBA Economics Panel has been monitoring the architects’ market for a decade, bringing together experts to share their experience and understanding, helping members to navigate the sector’s ups and downs.

Meeting in RIBA’s HQ in London on 1 February at 1 pm, the first 2023 webinar will include expert economic contributions from:

  • Noble Francis, Economics Director at the CPA & Honorary Professor at the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction
  • Adrian Malleson, Head of Economic Research and Analysis at RIBA

Together they will explore current and future trends in the construction and architecture sectors – including forecasts and potential growth areas.

A panel of three architects, chaired by RIBA Publishing Director Helen Castle, will reflect on the economic outlook. How will it affect their practices? What measures are they putting in place to protect their businesses?

Panellists include:

  • Fiona Clark - Practice Director, David Miller Architects
  • Sasha Bhavan - Founding Partner, Knox Bhavan
  • Chithra Marsh - Associate Director, Buttress
