The RIBA Exeter invites you to its Annual General Meeting, an online event where the branch's main activities will be highlighted. This will also be an opportunity to elect a Chair Elect ready to take over in September.
After the branch discussion, guest speaker Nicola Peel will deliver a lecture about biomimicry and how nature can inspire and influence architectural design.

Biomimicry and nature's intelligence: what architects can learn from the natural world
Billions of years of evolution and nature has worked out what works and what lasts. This awe-inspiring presentation shows examples of some of the ways nature can help us. From architecture to materials, the macro to the micro, we will discuss nature's designs, systems and processes.
We will explain how life builds using onsite resources without toxic chemicals, uses shape and form and intelligently replicates and communicates. We will look at some of the species’ business is learning from and how and what the future could look like.
The presentation will focus on architecture and how nature is used to influence design concepts, etc. Nicola will incorporate exemplary buildings for which the usage of biomimicry has worked successfully and an outlook of future development in the field.
Nicola Peel
Nicola Peel has spent 20 years working in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Focussed on environmental solutions, she lectures on her projects as well as the art and science of biomimicry. Billions of years of evolution life has worked out the best forms, designs and strategies to be as energy efficient as possible. We all have so much to learn and now is the time.
