RIBA Hampshire: Architectural cycling tour

Explore a curated selection of Winchester’s most interesting educational buildings on two wheels with RIBA Hampshire

Join RIBA Hampshire for a unique architectural tour by bike, exploring a curated selection of Winchester’s most interesting educational buildings. Led by architect Keith Evans, this is the fourth in a series of themed cycle rides designed to highlight thoughtful, inspiring architecture across the city.

This ride focuses on architecture for learning, from innovative primary schools to award-winning university buildings, and offers insight into how these spaces shape the educational experience.

You'll ride at a relaxed pace, making stops along the route to hear more about the design concepts, materials, and architectural stories behind each building, with input from the architects themselves, including:

  • Barton Farm Primary Academy – Designed by Keith Evans, this new-build school at the heart of the Kings Barton development responds to a contemporary educational brief while integrating with its growing neighbourhood.
  • Osborne School – An inclusive learning environment, which supports children with a wide range of additional needs. The building’s design reflects a sensitive approach to accessibility and sensory experiences.
  • University of Winchester West Downs Centre – RIBA 2022 Award-winning higher education facility, known for its commitment to sustainability and wellbeing.

Plus more stops along the way! We’ll pass and discuss additional educational buildings of architectural interest, providing context to Winchester’s evolving educational landscape.

The ride will end with a well-earned social stop at The Willow Tree, a welcoming local pub just across from Durngate Car Park. We’ll enjoy some snacks and a chance to chat further about the tour.
