RIBA London Great British Buildings The Sekforde

Join us for an exclusive opportunity to hear more about this RIBA Award winning building from the architect who designed it.

Great British Buildings gives you an exclusive look at some of the this year’s RIBA award winning buildings in the London. Join the architect for a one off architectural tour as they reveal the stories behind the building, what inspired them and what makes their building an RIBA Award winner.

As part of this series of events showcasing 2018's Award winners, we will tour The Sekforde, a restored historic pub in the heart of Clerkenwell, which has been renovated by Chris Dyson Architects with the introduction of a new build three storey building in the old pub yard, housing a guest lodging along with kitchen and administrative rooms connected to the pub.

The building was described by the jury panel during the RIBA Awards process as:

‘A new three storey building sits adjacent in the old pub yard, presented as a contemporary interpretation of Georgian Architecture. Its reclaimed stock bricks, gauged brick arches and specialist brick pointing allow it to sit comfortably next to the old pub, separated by a dramatic glazed slot in between, while the crisp simplicity of the form, hard edge parapets and deep reveals ensures it presents itself as unashamedly contemporary. The depth of the historical research undertaken by the architect and client is demonstrated by the discovery of an 1872 map proving the original existence of a building on the yard site that proved pivotal to justify the introduction of the new building. ’

The tour will be followed by a RIBA East London Architects group social in the pub!
