RIBA Norfolk Past Presidents Panel Discussion

RIBA Norfolk presents a Past Presidents panel discussion as part of FANN 21, their 7th Festival of Architecture Norwich & Norfolk.

Join us for an online panel discussion with past Norfolk Association of Architects presidents reflecting on the past 100 years of architecture and the profession in Norfolk, and speculating on its future.

The panel are Anthony Hudson, Chris Garner, Jerene Irwin, Jon Boon, and Michael Innes.

Jerene Irwin, Director Chaplin Farrant.
Jerene joined Chaplin Farrant in 2007 progressing to Associate in 2014 and became an Director in 2018. She has attained a Prince 2 project management qualification and is the immediate Past President of RIBA Norfolk.

Jerene specialises in large commercial projects including industrial, office and retail developments, delivering high quality schemes for major developers. She also has extensive experience in education, the public sector and community projects, from internal refurbishments to multi-million-pound college redevelopment programmes and long-term master plans.

Anthony Hudson, Director Hudson Architects
Anthony founded Hudson Architects in 2002, a design-led practice based in Norwich and London. Projects include public buildings and spaces, urban and rural regeneration, housing, bespoke homes, hotels, education buildings, galleries and museums. Awards include 15 RIBA Awards, RIBA East Building of the Decade, 4 RICS Awards, Civic Trust and Sunday Times Building of the Year. Anthony is Visiting Professor of Architecture at Norwich University of Arts and has previously held positions as external examiner for Cambridge, Kingston and Newcastle Universities.

Anthony is Deputy Chair for Design: South East, Board Member of both Building Growth in Norfolk and How Should Norfolk Grow and a member of the RIBA Housing Group. He was President of the Norfolk Association of Architects from 2015-17. Anthony is a regular contributor to a number of publications writing on architecture and design and its impact on economic issues and the positive development of society. An Open Mind: The Work of Hudson Architects was published by Artifice Books in 2012.

Jon Boon, Director Jon Boon Architects
Jon Boon formed Jon Boon Architects in 2014 following his retirement as senior architectural partner at Ingleton Wood. He is a chartered architect with over 40-years’ experience, specialising in low-energy PassivHaus and sustainable design.

Jon is Vice-Chairman of the Norwich Housing Society, a Trustee of the Norwich Society, and a former President of the Norfolk Association of Architects.

Michael Innes, Architect
Michael is one of the founding directors of LSI Architects and is best known for his work on Castle Mall, now known as Castle Quarter and the refurbishment of Norwich Market.

Michael was President of the Norfolk Association of Architects in 2009 and is still very active in the region, campaigning to express concern about controversial planning proposals and to support the future generation of architects to learn with local relevance from past visions on how to tackle global warming from the perspective of the built and planned environment.

Chris Garner, Architect
Chris Garner was a Partner with Feilden + Mawson LLP for 24 years, mainly designing housing in Norfolk and Suffolk, as well as some significant commercial developments. He was a former President of the NAA, and the Co-ordinator for the Norwich Forum for the Construction Industry for 10 years.
