RIBA North East: J.E.D.I. talk, Inclusive design[ers]

Explore the challenges and opportunities of designing sensory accessible spaces, hear compelling stories of innovation and determination, and learn practical approaches to crafting spaces that embrace diversity and promote belonging.

Explore the world of design through a new lens as we host a conversation with trailblazing architects and designers from the deaf, blind, and partially-sighted communities. This event shines a light on the unique challenges these professionals faceā€”not only in navigating the built environment but also in shaping it through their own work.

Join us as our speakers share personal insights, discuss adaptive strategies, and reveal how accessibility and inclusivity can be prioritised in the design process.

This event invites architects, designers, students, and advocates to gain a deeper understanding of how to make architecture and urban spaces welcoming to all. Learn about the nuances of designing spaces that consider sensory limitations, hear stories of resilience and creativity, and discover practical solutions that make our built environments more inclusive. By understanding the experiences and perspectives of deaf and blind designers, we can all become better equipped to design spaces that truly serve everyone.

About JEDI talks

The JEDI talks (just, equity, diversity, and inclusion) are hosted by RIBA Northeast and supported by a team of architects from across the north of the UK. The series has become a popular platform for discussion on themes varying from flexible working, the impact of the pandemic, racism vs inclusion, neurodiverse friendly architecture, and the human cost of architecture. More talks will be announced in the new year.
