Calling all sole practitioners and architects working in small practices. We’ve developed a series of interactive online events to provide a forum to discuss issues and problems that practices are facing as they navigate their way through the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and Brexit.
For this session we will discuss the challenges of starting a practice, understanding various legal requirements, formulate your business plan and other considerations. This event is interactive and you are welcome to submit any questions you have about setting up a practice when booking online or during the event.

Simon Foxell, The Architects Practice
Simon Foxell is an architect and Sole Principal of The Architects Practice. In recent years the practice has focused on education design, working with both schools and local authorities. Simon Foxell was lead design adviser to Birmingham City Council’s Transforming Education programme from 2007 to 2010.
He has sat on both RIBA Council and Board and is a former chair of RIBA London Region. He currently acts as co-ordinator for the industry think tank, the Edge, and has published widely on topics including professionalism and the social history of mapping. Books include: The professionals’ choice: the future of the built environment professions (2003), Starting a Practice: A Plan of Work (2006, 2015 and 2021), A Carbon Primer for the Built Environment (2014) and Mapping London: making sense of the city (2007). His most recent book, Professionalism for the Built Environment, was published by Routledge in 2018.
