RIBA South West Small Practice Network #5: Guest speaker Graham Bizley

Join guest speaker Graham Bizley for a discussion on reducing carbon emissions and energy use in buildings as part of our next RIBA South West Small Practice Network meetup.

The RIBA South West Small and Emerging Practice Network meetup is a sociable interactive event and growing networking platform for RIBA Members to share tips, concerns or questions about their practice or the profession. It is also a chance to celebrate architecture, and we invite you to come forward if you would like to share your projects and expertise to our audience of RIBA architects.

Reducing carbon emissions and energy use in buildings

With the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge at the forefront of our agenda in 2021 and beyond, we encourage as many practices as possible to join the movement and sign up to the challenge.

Throughout the year, we will invite speakers at our monthly Small Practice Network meetups to demonstrate and share their skills at tackling the current crisis. This month, we are pleased to welcome Chartered Architect Graham Bizley of Prewett Bizley Architects.

The climate crisis puts a responsibility on all of us as architects to ensure that our work is not detrimental to the environment. Prewett Bizley Architects have pioneered some of the most extreme low-energy retrofit projects to date in the UK and are passionate about the need to reduce the impact of buildings on the environment.

The practice is committed to radically reducing the energy consumption of buildings through a "fabric first" approach, with extensive experience in delivering sustainable new-build and retrofit projects using Passivhaus construction methodologies.

Graham will give a brief introduction to the issues around reducing carbon emissions and energy use in buildings, including the principles of Passivhaus. The talk will use examples from the practice’s work to demonstrate how these principles can be put into practice and to show that good architecture does not have to be sacrificed for excellent energy performance.

Graham will also answer questions from delegates and be on hand to talk about Passivhaus in detail.

Please do not hesitate to contact riba.southwest@riba.org if you have any queries about the event.
