RIBA South West Small Practice Network #4: Passivhaus with Haydn Bennett

This sociable interactive event is a growing networking platform for local RIBA Members to share tips, concerns or questions about their practice or the profession. It is also a chance to celebrate architecture. Join us in sharing your projects and expertise with our local audience of RIBA architects.

The climate emergency and sustainable design

With the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge at the forefront of our agenda in 2021 and beyond, we will invite speakers at our monthly Small Practice Network meetups to demonstrate and share their skills at tackling the current crisis.

Through the activities run by the RIBA, we encourage as many practices as possible to join the movement and sign up for the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge.

This month, RIBA Chartered Architect Haydn Bennett will look at two house projects designed to the Passivhaus standard: one in a timber framed system and the other in brick and blockwork.

He will go through some of the differences and challenges of each type of construction, with pictures at different stages of the construction to illustrate various Passivhaus features for each scheme. After the presentation, Haydn will be available to answer questions and discuss Passivhaus in general as well in detail about its construction.

The practice

Based in Salisbury, Haydn's RIBA Chartered Practice was founded in 1990 and has experience in designing low energy and sustainable houses including Passivhaus for homeowners. Haydn is a Member of Passivhaus Trust, Associated Self-Build Architects (ASBA Architects) and the Sustainable Building Association (AECB).
