Before delving into practical architectural drawing exercises focusing on pattern, motifs and decorative elements in architecture.

You’ll warm up with a series of timed drawing tasks designed to help you loosen up and focus on interesting architectural details. Before working together to scale up a selection of your sketches – measuring, calculating, and redrawing them to produce bold large-scale pieces. Come, explore, draw and think big with us!

Some materials will be provided, but please bring along a sketchbook and pencil if possible.

For young people aged 16-18. This workshop is free, but participants must register. All participants should have permission to travel to and from the workshop location independently. They are responsible for staying with the group for the duration of the session, informing RIBA staff if they need or wish to leave early.

Skill Up Visits

Following the closure of RIBA’s London home, 66 Portland Place, for renovation, our Skill Up programme is returning as Skill Up Visits; a series of curated visits to architecture-related places in London. For teenagers aged 16 to 18, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about architecture and design, explore new institutions, exhibitions and buildings, and think critically and respond creatively within workshop activities and briefs.

V&A Architecture Gallery

As the home of the national collection of architecture, the V&A holds monumental plaster casts, large-scale architectural fragments and entire historic rooms, as well as models, drawings and sketchbooks by major British and international architects from across history. The Architecture Gallery, co-curated by the RIBA, houses models, drawings and fragments from different architecture periods and styles.
