This summer, Cutty Sark is partnering with RIBA to run a series of workshops for families over the summer holidays.
These creative workshops will inspire visitors of all ages and experiences. They will reveal the spaces and places in which Cutty Sark sailors lived, learned, worked, and played.
Over the six weeks, we will be designing living quarters for our furry clients on board, exploring wind powered vehicles and how they move, building cabins suitable for an 80 day voyage and more, all while celebrating the joy and importance of play.
These workshops are free with purchase of a Cutty Sark admission ticket. Pre-booking is essential.

26 July: Animal architecture
Did you know there are plenty of animals on board Cutty Sark? We need your help to design and create living quarters for our furry, feathery, and friendly clients.
2 August: Wind powered vehicles
Try out your design ideas and race your wind powered vehicles beneath the hull of the world's most magnificent sailing ship.
9 August: Sailor's cabins
Sailors had cramped quarters for sleeping for a long 80 days and 80 nights. They were exposed to the elements and often woke up in pools of icy water. Can you do any better? Work as a team as we build life size cabins for Cutty Sark’s weary sailors.
16 August: Now and then skyline hats
Using inspiration from the views of London’s skyline and the river from Cutty Sark’s Weather Deck, and imagining how this skyline would have changed over long voyages, we are going to be creating our own hats based on the buildings and structures around us.
23 August: Under the sea
Create a seascape inspired by the Nick Grimshaw glazed structure surrounding the Cutty Sark. Imagine a sea without plastic or pollution and create a super habitat for the fish that would have lived under Cutty Sark.
