Leeds City Square

This competition sought a multi-disciplinary design team to redevelop Leeds City Square and create a world class and vibrant piece of inclusive public realm, which responds positively to the city’s diverse population, cultural richness and to the citys climate change ambitions.

Invited Culture and Leisure

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Leeds City Council and Balfour Beatty are pleased to announce the five teams shortlisted for the Leeds City Square competition. City Square is a piece of public realm that welcomes people to Leeds and is often their first impression of the city. It is therefore vital that its redesign represents the ambitions of Leeds and reflects its diverse community. The shortlist was drawn from architect and landscape architect led teams who were invited to submit an Expression of Interest.

The five shortlisted teams are:

  • Aecom with Graeme Massie
  • Atkins
  • Gillespies
  • MICA
  • re-form landscape architecture

Each of the shortlisted teams will now develop a concept design for the future of City Square in response to the phase 2 brief.
