RIBA guidance on coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak

This is an extraordinary time and the RIBA is working hard to provide our members with all the information and tools they need to navigate their way through the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

From lobbying government on the key issues that matter to our sector, to providing practical advice on practice resilience and remote working, we are tailoring our plans and tactics to respond to our members’ feedback and supporting them every step of the way. 

RIBA Chartered Practices can log in and access comprehensive and continually updated advice on employment and HR issues via a telephone service and online business consultancy library.

We have compiled a digest of everything the RIBA has published around the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, in response to member concerns and queries.

Messages from RIBA Members

Restrictions are slowly being lifted in Asia and businesses are back at work. We asked RIBA Members to create video messages for their fellow architects across the world.

RIBA events and programmes affected by COVID-19 outbreak

Our public buildings and exhibitions at RIBA 66 Portland Place, London (including the gallery, library, bookshop and bar) and RIBA North, Liverpool are now closed.

In addition, all physical events from the RIBA are now either cancelled or postponed until further notice. If you have booked onto an event, you will receive an email from the event organiser.

CPD Programme

We are moving all RIBA CPD events to online only for the time being. Where this isn't possible, we're rescheduling events to later in the year.

RIBA UK Awards

All judging of the RIBA Awards has been postponed. Entrants have been informed.

RIBA International Awards 2020 have been postponed, with all announcements now taking place in 2021.

Learning Programme

Our Learning workshops will not be held until further notice. In the meantime, we are working hard to create some online resources so you can continue architectural learning at home. Find out more.

Organisational update

The RIBA is focused on providing members with the information, guidance and support they need during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. 

Like many other organisations, the RIBA will furlough around 30% of our UK-based employees through the UK Government Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. This will help safeguard jobs and ensure a level of financial security for the institute.

RIBA CEO, Alan Vallance said: “I am incredibly proud of the way colleagues have responded to the Coronavirus outbreak so far – ensuring we remain fully operational through remote working – and thank them for their continued efforts to support the profession during this difficult time.”
