Architecture students launch :scale Magazine

Architecture student blog :scale continues to grow with the launch of their own magazine – featuring articles, exclusive interviews and projects driven by the student community and curated by young professionals.

08 September 2020

University of Greenwich student Sana Tabassum is the founder of architecture blog :scale a popular, community-based resource and platform for students all over the world. After RIBA Future Architects spoke with Sana and the :scale team back in March 2020, the blog has continued to grow, building an international community of student followers and producing a wide range of interesting content.

They have recently launched their own magazine: a collective project and resource that features a range of articles, exclusive interviews and projects driven by the student community and curated by young professionals.

Introducing :scale Magazine

Issue 01 – Community, features a range of articles, exclusive interviews and projects driven by our community curated by young professionals within this industry.

"The aim of our magazine is simple. Providing a platform for students and designers from all over the world where they can share their opinions, stories and interests with the rest of our archi-community. :scale has been a space for discussions on what is lacking within the built environment at the moment.

:scale blog has received a great response from all over the world and so we wanted to keep the momentum going and collaborate with our audience to create this project. We found that there weren’t many opportunities for young students to be able to write and design outside of education so we held an open call and got together a small team of 20.

Since then, we have worked hard on Discord, reached out to professionals and sought advice from anyone and everyone to bring you this magazine issue. This isn’t just a normal magazine, it’s a collective project, a resource that has meaning at this moment in time, amidst a global pandemic."

Our :scale community

"Now more than ever, a sense of community has been building on social media in the architecture space. There isn’t a lack of lectures, webinars, competitions and resources surfacing to help fellow students push through the last few stages of their academic year. The archi-community isn’t restricted to a specific location or level of experience.

Through this community, we can gain new skills, learn more and connect with like-minded individuals sitting at home. Our first issue explores case studies that are driven by community, questions how architects can move forward post-pandemic and speaks to content creators who are at the heart of the community."

Keep up with :scale weekly blog posts and social media or read their first issue.
