Drawing Inspiration: Perspectives of London

The dramatic and contrasting architecture of London will be our inspiration for this drawing course focusing on perspective.

Drawing Inspiration: Perspectives of London
Saturday 14 March 2020, 10am to 4pm
For students and adults aged 18 and over; all abilities welcome

Join artist Wilson Yau for this one-day drawing course at the RIBA, which will explore a range of drawing skills and use perspective to create your own portfolio of architectural drawings. The dramatic and contrasting architecture of London, the RIBA’s Art Deco building and rarely-seen items from the RIBA’s historic architectural collections will be our inspiration for this course. Your drawings will play with scale and viewpoints, and your tutor will support you to increase your confidence in using perspective and vanishing points. You will learn how to record or interpret views of places and space.

In this workshop you will:

  • improve your observation skills and confidence in drawing through a range of short and in-depth practical drawing exercises
  • learn how to use pencil and pen to create work inspired by the built environment
  • understand more about the buildings and architectural styles of London and beyond
  • be guided by an experienced teacher and artist with a background in architecture
  • use a variety of unique spaces to create your drawings: the Clore Learning Studio, RIBA building and exhibition galleries

About the event

This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to engage actively with architecture through drawing. All materials are provided, and the workshop is suitable for beginners or as a refresher for those with experience. Lunch is not provided, but light refreshments will be available in the studio. Online booking is essential.
