Beginning with an overview of the UK Planning system this seminar will then delve into greater detail:

  • Exploring legal framework
  • The role of local authorities and planning procedures
  • Processes for making a planning application
  • Types of planning appeal, appeal procedure and timelines
  • Information on appeal decisions and inquiries
  • Overview of the Community Infrastructure Levy
  • Supplementary planning guidance and Permitted Development

By attending this CPD Day you will increase your understanding of planning issues, planning appeals, the decision and inquiry process and bring your knowledge right up to date.

This seminar is suitable for those who would like a recap after a career break, EU architects new to practicing in the UK, and newly qualified architects in need of further clarification on the topic.

Speaker

Emma Beardmore joined DLP Planning Ltd in 2017, as the director of the London office, having worked for St James (part of the Berkeley Group) as part of a team delivering a 25 year regeneration project. Emma graduated from Newcastle University in 2000 and has been a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 2002.

Prior to joining the Berkeley Group, Emma worked as consultant for 14 years in leading London consultancy firms advising clients on a range of projects across London, the South East and Wales. Emma has led a number of multi-disciplinary project teams to achieve planning success and delivery on site, advising on strategy, programme and the preparation of complex planning applications.

  • Cancellations are permitted up to 28 days before the event; you can transfer to a different course up to 14 days before the event, subject to availability; substitutions are accepted at any time; please contact adam.turner@riba.org office for cancellation/substitution requests
  • An email will be sent to confirm your place after you have made your booking via Eventbrite links or other methods. A second email confirming venue along with map/directions will be sent to you approximately 7 to 10 days before the event
  • Bookings at the member rates will only be accepted if accompanied by a valid membership number.
  • If you require a purchase order to be quoted on your invoice this must be supplied at the time of booking
  • A photographer may cover this event and the photographs may be used to publicise future RIBA events
