RIBA East Emerging Practice Network: Sustainability series #2

The RIBA East Small & Emerging Practice Network is a regular online networking meeting aimed at start-ups, sole practitioners and small and emerging practices in the East of England.

For our April meetup, we're continuing our sustainability series and will be welcoming Joel Gustafsson of JG Consulting who will talk to the group about:

  • how to advise clients on services upgrades for low energy retrofit projects
  • the use of sustainable heating systems in existing buildings/extension projects
  • dealing with ventilation when undertaking thermal upgrades and/or improving airtightness

Joel has over 13 years of experience in environmental design, energy strategy development, and mechanical and electrical engineering. He is based in Cambridge and has worked across a range of sectors. Many of his projects have set important precedents that support reducing the environmental impact of the built environment.

Joel is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and holds a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of Cambridge. He uses his project experience to engage with and influence the wider industry. He is a member of the Cambridgeshire Quality Panel, a trustee of the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry, and on the Policy Advisory Panel for the Heat Pump Federation.

He entered the environmental design and engineering industry to maximise the positive impact of his work. He is motivated by real world outcomes and thrives on working with clients to find and deliver the right solution for their project regardless of scale, budget, or sector.

As always, conversation, group participation, and networking is encouraged and we welcome questions, which can be either posted when registering or emailed to Sasha, Luke or Jules via juliet.talbot@riba.org.

The events are hosted by Sasha Edmonds - Liv Architects, Luke Butcher - Butcher Bayley Architects and new joint group Chair Liz King - Liz King Architect.
