RIBA North West: CSA summer social and building visit to Rose Castle

Join the Cumberland Society of Architects at former Bishop of Carlisle’s Residence, Rose Castle, for a talk, tour and architect's social.

Join CSA for a talk and tour of Rose Castle, recently refurbished by Architects Plus with original design proposals by Haysom Ward Miller.

About the event

With canapes, drinks and talks by the people who were intimately involved in the project, the event will be an excellent opportunity to find out about the extensive restoration and conversion works to this Grade I Listed Building. There will also be the opportunity to socialise and network with fellow architects, students, and others from within the architectural profession.

The current Rose Castle was built in the early 14th Century to replace an earlier fortified structure and has been the seat of the Bishops of Carlisle more or less continuously for the last 800 years. The works were undertaken with care and sensitivity throughout, with great respect being given to the “grain” of the original building fabric – whilst acknowledging that changes have needed to be made to bring the building up to 21st century standards.

Getting there

There will be a free bus from Carlisle centre to Rose Castle, leaving at 4:15pm and returning to Carlisle for 8:15pm for anyone who wishes to use it – please indicate on the booking form if you’d like a place on the coach.
