Women occupy less than 5% of senior-level positions in UK architectural practices. Yet, the number of women studying architecture increases annually; in 2022, more than 50% of incoming students were women. Statistics also indicate that many women leave architecture between the ages of 30 and 40.
Promoting women in architecture
In this half-day event, the RIBA North West EDI group will investigate barriers towards women being promoted in architectural practices. We will also share strategies and good practice to support career development for women in the profession.
The goal of the event is to share experiences, establish networks of support, and help attendees build a resilient mindset towards approaching career development, with the help of a coach.
This event includes a talk from Professor Igea Troiani, Head of Division of Architecture at London South Bank University (LSBU), and a workshop from foreign-qualified architect and coach, Ishwariya Rajamohan.
This workshop is organised and sponsored by the architectural courses at the University of Salford and in collaboration with London South Bank University, the Women in Architecture (WIA) group, and the RIBA North West Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) group.
Following the event, attendees are encouraged to join us for a social event to network and make connections with fellow attendees.
