RIBA South West Small Practice Network #2/22 - Changes to the Building Regulations

An online event to create dialogue, discussion and support for RIBA Members in small practices.

Changes to the Building Regulations 2022

The UK government has set in law a target to bring all of its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. As part of the journey to 2050, the UK government committed to introducing the Future Homes Standard in 2025 and an uplift to energy efficiency standards and requirements in 2022 as a stepping stone to the Future Homes Standard.

An average home is likely to have 75 to 80% less carbon emissions than one built to current energy efficiency requirements. Improvements to the standards for energy efficiency in non-domestic buildings, changes to the ventilation standards for all types of buildings, and a new requirement to limit solar overheating in residential buildings are also set to change. Everyone involved in the design or construction of new dwellings will need to begin to understand the implications of these proposed changes.
