RIBA + VitrA Talk: A new powerhouse for London - rebuilding the brick cathedral

Join us to learn how the transformation of the iconic Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station has created a vibrant new neighbourhood for London

The RIBA + VitrA Talks bring together architects that are building structures rooted in place, shaped by their context and values of integrity. For the second event in the series, we will be exploring one of the most important regeneration projects of the 21st century, the new Battersea Power Station, originally designed in the 1930s by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott on the south bank of the River Thames.

A keynote lecture by lead architect Sebastien Ricard at WilkinsonEyre will trace the origins of the decade long project, outlining the architectural approaches to a scheme that is delivering a long term, sustainable vision for the 42 acre site. The lecture will outline the research and design processes involved, and discuss the ambition needed to create rewarding public and commercial spaces for the broad range of users that will occupy them.

After the lecture Sebastien will be joined in conversation by writer and journalist Helen Barrett to discuss the wider cultural, social and economic significance of the site within the modern history of London, followed by an audience Q&A.

This event is part of our Forms of Exchange: Exploring the spaces in between series of talks for the RIBA + VitrA Partnership.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to add social, economic, and cultural value to society, and
