Given the opportunity to masterplan this portion of the Perse School site before designing the building, the architects were able to plan the position of the new buildings so that it created a courtyard that has quickly become the heart of the school. The new theatre forms the main face of the new courtyard, providing enclosed and convivial spaces, while at the same time being open and democratic.

Winner of an RIBA East Regional Award and an RIBA National Award, it is a very versatile auditorium, courtyard style balconies work well in a variety of different audience configurations and a well-conceived technical level above provide a playing space that is both sophisticated and technically adaptable.

This event is part of our Great British Buildings series of talks and tours around the country.
